FIRST FINISHER in the 268 mile Virtual Spine Race. Finished late on 11th January after walking 43 miles (inc 5 laps of Rudyard Lake), 40 the day before and 25 on Friday. Final 15 miles on the track at Macclesfield Leisure Centre .

Run / walk split for whole event prob 25 / 75. Averaged 24+ m a day for 11 days. Highest ever mileage for 7 days. MANY miles running up and down our hall and kitchen when I couldn't face the ice - Garmin very confused! Coldest session outside -8.

Fueled by Haribo, Soreen, salted peanuts, mini Cheddars and a couple of Bakewell Tarts . Hydrated with water and ginger cordial.

No blisters but my poor knees are a bit hurty  and my immune system has thrown up minor head cold type symptoms.

Had no plan to be competitive but I found myself at the top of the leader board early on and something got a hold of me.

I'm glad it's done .

Kudos to those doing the 'proper' Spine races. They are made of tough stuff . Good luck to everyone still slogging out the Virtual Spine .
